Resource Allocation with Reduced Feedback and Distributed Multiple Access in Full-Duplex Cellular and WiFi Systems

Full-duplex promises to double the data rates by enabling simultaneous transmission and reception over the same frequency band. Enabling full-duplex in cellular and WiFi networks creates a new inter-user interference between uplink and downlink transmissions. To effectively mitigate this interference, we propose and analyze a novel user-pair scheduling and mode selection algorithm that operates with very limited feedback and achieves high spectral efficiency. We then develop new distributed multiple access protocol for full-duplex WiFi networks, which exploit the presence of hidden nodes and the signalling available in the WiFi standards. These can increase the throughput by up to 100%.
