We explore an intensity-based interrogation technique using fused fiber demux as an edge filter, for the first time, which is a simple/elegant scheme, offering advantages such as portability, environment friendliness, and cost-effectiveness without compromising sensitivity. Strain on the fiber Bragg grating (FBG) causes the grating pitch to vary and hence the reflected Bragg wavelength to shift. The integrated power (intensity) variation of the reflected spectrum is measured after passing through the edge filter. Our work demonstrates a cost-effective, simple, EMI-free, and portable setup for strain measurement using the FBG and edge filter, with a wavelength-to-intensity conversion technique suitable for real-time applications.
