Dean of the Division : Rajesh Sundaresan

Rajesh Sundaresan is Professor in the Department of Electrical Communication Engineering and an associate faculty in the Robert Bosch Centre for Cyber-Physical Systems. He received the BTech degree in Electronics and Communication from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras in 1994 and his MA and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University in 1996 and 1999, respectively. He then worked at Qualcomm Inc. on the design and development of wireless modems. He joined IISc in 2005. He has held visiting positions at Qualcomm Inc., the Coordinated Sciences Laboratory of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the Toulouse Mathematical Institute, Strand Life Sciences, and the Indian Statistical Institute’s Bengaluru Centre.

His research interests include decision theory, communication, computation, and control over networks, cyber-social systems, and, more recently, data-driven decision frameworks for public health responses.

Chair, CSA: Deepak D’Souza

Deepak D’Souza is Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Automation. He received his PhD from the Chennai Mathematical Institute in 2000 and has been at the CSA department in IISc since 2003.

His areas of interest include program verification, program analysis, and specification and analysis of real-time and hybrid systems. His group’s work spans across verification techniques like model-checking, deductive verification, and static analysis, for reasoning about various properties like functional correctness, scene safety, and data-race freedom, for a variety of system models ranging from real-time operating systems and separation kernels to Android-style event-driven programs.

Chair, ECE : Neelesh B Mehta

Neelesh B Mehta is Professor in the Department of Electrical Communication Engineering. He received the BTech degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from the  Indian Institute of Technology Madras in 1996 and his MS and PhD in Electrical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology in 1997 and 2001, respectively. After his PhD, he worked in USA at AT&T Labs, Broadcom Corp., and Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs until 2007, when he joined IISc.

His research focuses on wireless communications. He has worked on 3G/4G/5G cellular communication standards, energy harvesting and green wireless sensor networks, cognitive radio, cooperative communications, multi-antenna technologies, and multiple access protocols.

Chair, EE : Udaya Kumar

Udaya Kumar is Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering. He received the BE degree in Electrical Engineering from Bangalore University in 1989 and his Master’s and PhD in High Voltage Engineering from IISc in 1991 and 1998, respectively. He joined IISc in 1998. He has been a member of international working groups on lightning-related topics and has/had projects with the Indian Space Agency, Aeronautical Development Agency, Metro/Railways, and Power companies.

His research interests include lightning, electromagnetics, and high voltage engineering.

Chair, ESE: Mayank Shrivastava

Mayank Shrivastava is Professor in the Department of Electronic Systems Engineering. He received his PhD degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. He joined IISc in 2013, prior to which he held positions in Infineon Technologies, Munich, Germany; Infineon Technologies, East Fishkill, USA; IBM Microelectronics, Burlington, USA; Intel Mobile Communications, Hopewell Junction, USA; and Intel Corp, Mobile and Communications Group, Munich, Germany, between 2009 and 2013.

He works on applications of emerging semiconductor materials such as Gallium Nitride (GaN) and atomically thin two-dimensional materials such as Graphene and TMDCs, in electronic and electro-optic devices working closer to their fundamental limits (such as the ability to handle extreme powers, ability to work at THz like ultra-frequencies, or ability to compute information in unconventional ways).
