The bicycle simulator consists of a bicycle, a smart trainer with Bluetooth and ANT+ technology, a path sensor, a virtual reality headset, a static motion platform, and a Unity software package for simulation.
The research objective of the current project is to understand the impact of a bicycle lane on the operational characteristics of bicyclists. The aim is to understand and compare different operational characteristics of bicyclists such as speed and acceleration when riding in a scenario with a bicycle lane and without one. In future, the plan is to understand and compare the safety characteristics of bicyclists in the above two scenarios. A dynamic motion platform may also be introduced.
The current project is partially funded by a C V Raman fellowship and partially by CiSTUP.
