IISc and NPCI have initiated a joint research collaboration on problems of interest to NPCI. The research projects will run initially over a period of 12 months. Faculty members from the Departments of CSA, EE, CDS, and Management Studies are working on these projects. A brief description of projects is provided below.
Vehicle Detection and Classification for Indian Highways
Faculty Members: R. Venkatesh Babu (CDS); Anirban Chakraborty (CDS); Soma Biswas (EE)
The objective of this project is detection of various vehicle types that cross the toll plaza and provide fine grained classfication of each vehicle type. A combination of techniques from the areas of computer vision and machine learning are being used in this project.
Fraud Analytics using AI
Faculty Members: Chiranjit Mukhopadhyay (MS), Chiranjib Bhattacharyya (CSA)
Fraud detection is a broad and challenging problem. NPCI has several products, which can be used to launch different kinds of fraud attacks such as those using RuPay card or through the NFS ATM network. Novel approaches from machine learning and artificial intelligence are being used to detect and prevent such frauds.
Marketing Spend Optimization
Faculty Members: Arindam Khan (CSA) and Shalabh Bhatnagar (CSA)
This project is concerned with designing suitable marketing strategies for NPCI. As part of this effort, previously used strategies and customer data are being analysed and methods from online learning, approximation algorithms, optimization, and reinforcement learning are being used.
Voice Interface for Digital Payments in Hindi and English
Faculty Members: Prasanta Ghosh (EE) and Sriram Ganapathy (EE)
The goal of this project is to extend the successes seen in voice based applications for digital payments platforms. With the development of a voice based engine for payments, digital payments can potentially become more user friendly and fast. Towards this goal, this project is building voice recognition systems for speech in Hindi and English (Indian English) related to digital payments.
