In keeping with India’s recent National Education Policy (NEP 2020), the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, has designed the Master of Technology (Online) degree programme, a fully online programme, for practising engineers and scientists. The degree programme is for professionals who are sponsored by organisations, who already have a BE/BTech/Equivalent degree and wish to upskill or re-skill themselves. We anticipate that the Online degree programme will extend to other areas in the next few years. The following programmes developed by the IISc faculty members will be offering admission from August 2021:
The M.Tech. (Online) degree is equivalent to our residential Master of Technology (M.Tech.) degree in all respects, number of credits, the project, the rigour and the level of the courses. The term “Online” in the name of the degree refer to the means by which the instructor-led lectures are delivered.
This programme will be available only in sponsored mode to sponsoring organisations. IISc will enter into an Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the sponsoring institution. The professionals can be employed full time in their organisations while pursuing this programme. Classes and content will all be delivered online. Assessment will be based on a mix of online and proctored examinations, as determined by the IISc. Admission will be under the MoA with the sponsoring institution. The organisation will first shortlist the candidates; a final selection will be based on a further written and/or an online interview conducted by IISc. Admission to the selected candidates will be offered only if the sponsoring organisation has signed the MoA with IISc. The nominal duration of the programme is two to three years.
A large number of companies including Bharat Electronics Limited, Intel India, Texas Instruments, Cisco, Walmart Labs, Flipkart, Mindtree, Samsung, etc. have signed up for this programme.
